Is there going to be a Mortal Instruments movie?
The film rights to The Mortal Instruments were optioned by Unique Features, the film production company set up by former founders and co-presidents of New Line Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne, who oversaw the production of the Lord of the Rings movies, back in 2009. They then teamed with Constantin Films to produce and film the actual movie, with Sony Screen Gems distributing and Harald Zwart directing. The film will be based on the first book and called The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.
The movie started filming August 20, 2012, in Toronto and the release date is August 23, 2013. Up to date set reports and photos of the cast can be found at https://www.facebook.com/TheMortalInstruments
Important things to know about movies:
t Constantin has been good about including me in the project, by which I mean they have been good about asking my opinion about things and listening to what I have to say. Most authors get no say whatesoever in the film adaptations of their movies. However, here are things I am not in charge of/have no control over/do not know about:
- How the film gets released
- Whether there will be auditions
- Who they will cast and when they will cast them
- Where they will shoot
- The soundtrack
- The screenplay
- The weather in Bulgaria.
I don’t have control; I just have to trust that the filmmakers will do their absolute best to produce a film we’ll all be proud of. Fingers crossed everyone!
