Teachers, Librarians and Book Groups

Hi there, teachers, librarians and book group leaders! All some of my favorite people. This page touches on some information about promo items for schools and libraries, school visits, library visits, and even has a discussion guide for the first book in the Mortal Instruments series.

Promotional items

1) If you’re a teacher, librarian or bookseller in North America, you can contact  Shadowhunters@simonandschuster.com with an email asking for  Mortal Instruments posters, postcards, and other promotional materials! Just indicate what it is you do, where you work, and where you want the items sent. [This is only for librarians/booksellers/teachers unfortunately — not for individual fans. These requests don’t go to me, they go to my publisher directly, and they’re pretty strict.]

2) If you’re in the UK/Ireland or Australia, please contact marketing@walker.co.uk instead of the above email address.

School and library visits.

1) I am generally happy to travel and speak to teens and middle-school students about writing and the Mortal Instruments books. I ask only that 1) The students have read my books. 2) I will make an exception to the “have read my books” rule in the cases of small creative-writing classes who want to participate in a workshop. 3) There is an honorarium to cover my time, and I do ask that travel expenses be covered.

2) If you’re interested in having me come out to your school or library, contact information and the form to fill out is here. If you’re not in North America or you have some special need or concern, you can contact me directly via the information on my bio/contact page. If you need to inquire about discounted bulk orders for books or advance copies of books for your school or library, please contact me directly. Ditto if you’re looking for promotional materials like postcards and bookmarks.

3) If the honorarium is a problem, you can find a great list of information about school visit grants here. You can also check my signings page here to see if I’ll be somewhere in your area, so you don’t have to cover travel expenses if we can work out the dates.

Book groups and discussion guides.

If your library book group or independent book club is reading and discussing The Mortal Instruments, that’s great! You can find a discussion guide for the series here with questions and activities: feel free to cut and paste or print out for your own use. You can find a discussion guide for Clockwork Angel, the first of the Infernal Devices series, here.
